Spring 2019 Roadwork Update

UPDATE: Thank you to the Town of Coventry Public Works department for coordinating with National Grid for the resurfacing of the selected roads listed below!

As many of you are aware, we have recently seen a bit of roadwork this spring throughout our neighborhood. We have inquired as to the purpose and time-line for the project with the Town of Coventry, Department of Public Works. These details below were provided by Mellisa Page (mpage@coventryri.org) from the Department of Public Works:

The project in question was permitted through the Town for National Grid. The purpose of this project is for the relay and abandonment of gas lines. The original permit anticipated the duration of work to be approximately one month. According to the permit the Roadways included are as follows:

Red Maple (from Wisteria to Jack Pine)- Main Relay/Abandonment
Wisteria Drive (Nooseneck to Jack Pine)- Main Relay/Abandonment
Wisteria Drive @ Jack Pine- Main Cut and Cap/Main tie-in
Red Maple @ Jack Pine- Main Cut and Cap/Main tie-in
Wisteria @ Linden Lane- Main Cut and Cap/Main tie-in
Red Maple @ Plum Tree Lane- Main Cut and Cap/Main tie-in
Wisteria @West View- Main Cut and Cap/Main tie-in
Services on Red Maple & Wisteria- Relay/Tie over 29 services

National Grid and their contractor will be solely responsible for resurfacing of the roadways opened during construction. National Grid will be responsible to resurface curb to curb. “I have attached a link for your information showing the ordinance regarding Road Opening’s. I can tell you from years of dealing with utility companies as well as contractors, Coventry has one of the toughest requirements of any city or town.  https://ecode360.com/6648028 “

Welcome new 2019/2020 WERA Leadership!

This month at our Annual Open Meeting we collectively approved returning and new officers that will lead our association over the next year. We would like to thank long time volunteers who are transitioning off the board, and welcome our new volunteers joining us. After many years of service, we say good-bye to Sue Stephens, and Laurie Hebert, both of whom have been vital to the success of WERA. Sue will be serving as our new auditor, an ad-hoc position on our board. We also welcome new Vice President Mark Barter, Treasurer Trish Bouchard, and Secretary Jen Ellis! A Happy Halloween Hayride! By Jenna Giguere

It was a A+ fall day of fresh air and sunshine when neighbors gathered for the annual Halloween Hayride.  Families got a tour of the neighborhood by horse drawn hay wagon, kids played the festive games prepared by our volunteers, and neighbors chatted over refreshments.  The traditions families can create by attending these annual events remind us of the value of living in the Wood Estates neighborhood and joining and remaining active in the WERA community.

2018 Summer Neighborhood Party by Jenna Giguere

The 2018 Summer Neighborhood Party was a great success thanks to the hard work of WERA volunteer planner, Karissa. The weather systems graciously cooperated with the planning, holding off on any rain and providing nice shade. The grown-up neighbors mingled with faces both familiar and new while the children playfully competed in games lead by WERA children’s committee volunteers (potato sack race, tug of war, etc.). Everyone went home with satisfied bellies after feasting on a delicious spread including treats like pulled pork sandwiches, mac and cheese, party pizza, fruits and veggies, and cookies.

A Quintessential Wood Estates July 4th by Jenna Giguere

It was the beginning of a beautiful day on the morning of July 4, 2018 as WERA volunteers were preparing for the Independence Day celebrations to come.  The parade route along apple blossom was lined with American flags and the starting point accented with patriotic decorations.  The goody bags were ready for our littlest neighbors to open with excitement.  The Membership Table greeted our loyal members and even some new faces in the neighborhood.  Chris, WERA President, enthusiastically delivered some opening remarks, neighborhood youth shared their patriotic spirit in song, and the young neighborhood prince and princess were announced.  Leading the parade was a classic car driven by a neighbor who carries on the tradition that his father had begun many years ago.  The procession was bustling with babies in strollers and wagons, children on bicycles, scooters, hover boards, and play cars, dogs with tails wagging, and proud parents and neighbors of all walks of life marching right along.  When the parade ended, neighbors said goodbye until they would meet again at the Point for fireworks at dusk.  After many family bbqs, much swimming and boating in the Pond, and other summer holiday festivities, it was time to end the day with a Bang!  The energy was building as neighbors gathered back together to watch the fireworks from the Point – the best viewing location on the Pond.  WERA members were thrilled to see the amazing fireworks show presented by the Johnson’s Pond Civic Association.  After the long day of fun, heads hit the pillows hard and minds were blessed with the memories created.
