Restoring our Wood Estates Entrance Sign

A friendly heads-up that WERA volunteers will be at the Wood Estates magnolia entrance sign, power washing the bricks and stone, and prepping the sign for a total restoration this week, and next. We will have traffic cones set up to slow down traffic when our volunteers are working.

Please keep an eye out for them when entering and exiting the neighborhood.

A long-time, generous WERA member will be restoring our entrance sign, to match the signs we installed a few years ago at the Wisteria entrance. The sign will be taken down for about 7-10 days during the restoration.

We would also like to thank the Town of Coventry Department of Public Works for providing traffic cones, and for their upcoming support with the installation of the restored sign.

We’re looking forward to brightening up the entrance to our neighborhood!

Thank you!

Volunteer!

Volunteer with WERA!

The New Year is a great time for us to refresh the goals and priorities of our small but mighty residents association. In doing so, we invite you to nominate yourself, or a neighbor to serve on our WERA Board of Directors. As a small neighborhood association we meet bi-monthly in an informal and social setting (virtually for the time being) to plan and discuss upcoming events and initiatives. This year we’re looking for a few new volunteers to join. The strength of our association comes from our volunteers. All of us lead busy lives and take time to volunteer here in our neighborhood to keep it such a great place to live. There is no better time than today to consider getting involved right here in your own backyard.

Opportunities include:

  • Point Officer
  • Secretary
  • Neighborhood Greeter
  • Landscaping/Entrances Lead
  • Website Manager
  • Signage Coordinator
  • Yard Sale Coordinator

Do you want to be an advocate for our neighborhood? Do you know an awesome neighbor that would be a great advocate? Please take a moment to check out our vacancies, and make some nominations, self nominations are welcome!

Thank you!

President, WERA

Archeology in Wood Estates

Our resident historian and arechologist has made some new finds due to low water level at Woods Point. Enjoy learning about our areas hidden history right under our feet!

1- old axe handle wood spreader for axe head

2- old whisky bottle top 1870’s

3- 1920’s Food type glass jar with cap and “something” still inside

4- Unknown at this time  Iron pieces

5- Same pieces & Large Bolt Type Shackle, This is something I was hoping to find. This item was made to pull or lift something very heavy, may be connected to the Woods ice business harvesting ice from this spot. Notice the color, this was in a wet environment for a long time.

6- Woman’s Brass hair pin.

And the assortment of lost fishing lures, and area where the artifacts were found.

News paper clippings from 1895 and 1901 about Daniel Wood’s ice business, George Wood was his son whom he was in business with.

Wood Estates History

Ever wonder about the history of our neighborhood? Or why there is a graveyard within our small suburban community? We’re thrilled to share that a most generous neighbor, Doug Dwyer — local historian and archaeologist — has complied a wealth of knowledge about the history of the very place we call home. Click Here and enjoy!

When life returns to normal, we’re planning with Doug to host a history workshop, hopefully this summer/fall! Stay tuned!
