History of Wood Estates

The area with which our neighborhood sits has a rich history dating back as far as the early 1800’s. Although the Wood Estates that we know today was not completed as a subdivision until the 1960’s, families lived and worked on what was previously known as Wood Farm. The farm occupied what is now the Wood Estates neighborhood that bears that families name. A visual reminder of the farm, many of us pass by daily, the Wood Family Cemetery located on Magnolia Lane. In that cemetery can be found generations of Wood family members, including Sgt. Daniel Wood, a World War II veteran who gave his life in defense of our country at the Battle of the Bulge.

Please find below a wealth of history including photos, research, and archaeological finds. We would like to thank Doug Dwyer, local historian, archaeologist, and researcher for his time and enthusiasm for compiling all of these historical resources.
